All Eyes on OR

Ah, yes, the summer Outdoor Retailer Show has arrived again. It’s the biggest party in paddlesports with no river in sight! OR is all about the hype, with every manufacturer in the sport playing the game as best they can, trying to woo retailers like Colorado Kayak Supply and Nantahala Outdoor Center into ordering en masse their latest and greatest releases.

Seriously though, it’s a fun time to be a kayaker cause it means lots of NEW TOYS to check out! Here’s my first take at a list of products and developments to be excited about and keep an eye on:

New Freestyle BoatsOf course this is a soft spot for me. And particularly exciting now that I can paddle them all! Not only has Dagger announced their new freestyle machine, the Jitsu, but word is we’ve got a 2013 All Star dropping from Jackson Kayak! Either I’m out of touch or Jackson has done quite a good job keeping this one under wraps… I just caught wind of it last night. There’s also the Liquid Logic composite freestyle boat in testing.

Other New Boats- Wave Sport is dropping a couple new boats at OR.
Recon- the Recon is a new displacement hull creek boat from Wave Sport coming in three sizes. With lots of input from creek master Bryan Kirk and other team members, Wave Sport hopes to answer the recent wave of displacement hull creek boats, like the Pyranha Shiva and Liquid Logic Stomper.

Ethos- The Ethos is a new crossover boat with a back hatch. This would be Wave Sport’s answer to crossover boats like the Jackson Rogue, Pyranha Fusion, LiquidLogic Remix XP

Other New Cool Stuff- Help me out, here. What am I missing, what new toys are you excited about? Astral Buoyancy is releasing a new line of footwear featuring five ten rubber and Astral quality  that’s at home both on the water and at the bar. Jackson Kayak says they’re launching 8 new boats, plus branching out into the Stand Up Paddle fishing world. Stay tuned for more on the newest, coolest gear in the industry!

Just got back to the east coast. Will be out here for a bit healing up my broken wrist, visiting with friends and family and catching up on a bunch of projects for the website. Looking for my next big adventure, but keeping the mini adventures rolling:)

Ever get that helmet cam footage put into a video from Vitamin B?

What was your favorite new product at OR? Was there anything that really had you want to get out there in, or on?

Hey Eric, thanks for stopping by. Being a freestyle boater, the 2013 All Star and Dagger Jitsu got my attention for sure. You?
